Non-Amish entrepreneurs have also participated in the Amish quilt industry. Amish Design, an Ohio based business active in the early 1980s produced this quilt, based on designs found on Amish-made quilts from the early twentieth century. George and Susan Delagrange, who ran Amish Design, also operated a successful antiques business and had seen the damage that could occur to antique quilts when hung on walls and exposed to light. They developed Amish Design as an alternative to the antique quilt trade, hiring Amish seamstresses to conduct the various steps of the quiltmaking process, and marketing their quilts to interior designers and corporate clients who liked the aesthetic of old Amish quilts.
