The Ladies' Aid of the Milford, Nebraska Methodist Church made this quilt and gave it to their minister, Rev. Velte, in 1936.  Church members paid 10 cents for their name to be on a petal and 25 cents for their name to be in the center of the flower on each block. It is unknown what the raised funds were used for. Soliciting donations in exchange for names appearing on quilts was a common practice among organizations using quilts to raise funds. With this method, a fundraising quilt generally raised between $25 and $100. Sometimes organizations then auctioned or raffled off the quilt, raising additional funds.
