This is one of six known quilts to descend in the Savery/Scattergood families of Philadelphia, all of which descendents attribute to Rebecca Scattergood Savery. Rebecca was the daughter-in-law of William Savery, a Philadelphia cabinetmaker and prominent Quaker abolitionist. In 1783, he was a signatory to the Quaker Anti-Slavery Petition.
