This unusual quilt commemorates the 1936 Republican presidential and vice-presidential candidates Alfred Landon and Frank Knox. Landon and Knox along with a sunflower and an elephant are stamped on the purple fabric in the central diamond. The sunflower represented Landon’s home state of Kansas. The elephant had been the symbol of the Republican party since 1874.
