Many of the prominent myths of quiltmaking emerged during the Colonial Revival, when women pulled spinning wheels out of storage and staged old-fashioned quilting bees to celebrate the fortitude of their colonial forbearers. This 1953 Maifest celebration, while occurring slightly after the heyday of the Colonial Revival, exemplifies the sorts of activities promoted as part of the revival.
