Family tradition suggests that Grandmother Lehman made this quilt for her sister Lizzie.  The pieced and appliqued Album/Sampler format and bold use of red and yellow are typical of Pennsylvania Dutch quilts, showing the influence of Germanic folk art traditions. Thirty-four of the quilt’s forty-nine blocks contain paper labels with signatures sewn onto the fabric. The names on the labels bear different handwriting and include both male and female names, but their significance is as yet unknown. Variations among the quilt blocks suggest that they may have been the work of several quilters.
